Bravo Ty Affair for a Triple Crown Win

A second race day filled with challenging and exciting conditions!  Bravo Ty Affair (helmed by Danielle Kuper, crewed by Lisa Shivers and coached by Ron Mihills) for a TRIPLE CROWN WIN.

With winds ranging from 14-20 knots and gusting to as much as 27, the fleet raced in the creek just off the Club dock.  Thanks to the Junior Sailing fleet for leaving their marks in place making it much easier on the Race Committee and Mark Boat team.  The mooring balls and oyster sticks added some spice to the quirky race course (thanks to difficulties setting the anchor!).  The fleet sailed windward-leeward courses initially once around and then twice around for the 2nd and 3rd races.

All races were exciting but the 3rd race was particularly exciting as the three boats merged at the first windward mark, separated on the 2nd windward leg and then it became a photo finish as Venturi (helmed by Sarah Stanton, crewed by Rolly Butts and coached by Chuck Carmichael) held on to 2nd place by inches as Lobster Girl (helmed by Johanna Carrington, crewed by Alison Jayne and coached by Tom Watkins) charged across the finish line.

If it weren’t for the coaches, chances are none of the teams would have been out there sailing in these conditions.  So a big thanks to Chuck Carmichael, Ron  Mihills and Tom Watkins for their excellent coaching.  A hearty thanks to Commodore Pete Clay, Ginny Clay and Tom Armstrong for their super job managing the marks.  And thanks to Lance Franke for being PRO and to Diane Cook-Tench for her “desk job” (aka flag duty par excellence).

Well done ladies!!!!!!
