Hello Ladies,
Good news – we have an enough interest in the Women’s
Sunday Typhoon Series so I’m moving forward with planning
activities. We also have Ron Mihills and Chuck Carmichael’s
support.
Here’s the overall concept:
Mission: have fun, improve sailing/racing
skills, and get out on the water (oh yeah…and compete, too!).
Schedule: Sunday afternoons starting ~ 3:15 pm
(I’ll be coordinating with the Junior Sailing group so that we don’t collide on
the water). Series would span 5 racing days between Easter and early
June. Since everyone is busy and not likely to race in all 5 Sundays, the
scoring will be lenient. With the intent of 3 races per race day, we’ll
take each racer’s best 9 scores. That means as long as you race in at
least 3 race days you won’t be penalized with “no show” scores. Here are
the proposed dates:
·
Sunday April 27
·
Sunday May 4
·
Sunday May 11 (this is Mother’s Day so we’ll
play it by ear…if there’s enough interest we’ll hold a race, if not we’ll pass)
·
Sunday May 18
·
Sunday June 1 (Awards BBQ to be held afterwards)
Several of you have asked for help in recruiting crew.
That won’t be a problem – we have 4+ women available to crew. So if you
are looking for crew, let me know and I’ll help make a match.
There is an area where I could
use your help. I need to recruit Race Committee and Mark Boat
volunteers so if you have a willing spouse, significant other, parent or child
willing to help out at least one race (or as many races as they want), that
would be super.
If you haven’t raced ever or in a while, don’t worry…this is
a low key series intended to be fun and supportive. Over the next few
weeks, I’ll be sending out information (eg, equipment needed on board, racing
rules, starting sequence info) to get everyone geared up and excited.
Also, I may organize a “captain/crew” briefing right before first Friday on
April 4th to answer any questions you might have and go over rules,
etc. I’ll keep you posted on that.
In the meantime, if you have questions, email me.
Please feel free to pass along this email to other women who
might be interested in racing their Typhoon or helping out as crew and/or Race
Committee/Mark Boat duty. The more the merrier!
Looking forward to a fun season,
Stephanie
